My adventure with sailing started long time ago in Poland in Mazury Lake District. Unfortunately because of a different life circumstances I wasn’t able to develop this passion. Many years ago fate brought me to England to Newcastle. A bit of coincidence, a bit of incident. Anyway, I would never guessed that consecutive coincidences few years later will cross my routes with Northumbria Sailing and its founder Melvyn.

It began innocent during one of our family holidays in Spain. Beautifully situated hotel beside the seaside and the marina with all these beautiful yachts. Every day walks in such a neighbourhood, sooner or later must end up with inspiration to action. Even been there I started searching internet how and where I could get skipper qualifications after I’m back in Newcastle.

Then I found Northumbria Sailing. After a few emails exchanged I made an appointment to discuss details of procedures of the course and getting qualifications. This is how I personally met Melvyn.

I took it as a challenge with courageous and confidence.

It wasn’t easy but no one promised that it would be.

Experience requiring determination and work. Many hours spent on studding navigation, meteorology and general sailing knowledge too.

All of it in my mother language would be challenging because of special terminology, not mentioning that I must grasp all of it in English. Finally three months of theory and one week practical were crowned with success. Passed exams resulted in achieving a Day Skipper title.

To all sailing lovers and potential candidates to obtaining sailing qualifications and experience I recommend Northumbria Sailing and its instructor , Ocean Yachtmaster Melvyn Wallhead.
